In the video, Alice assumes that her mom thinks that she is a drag. She wanted a new start, she bought new clothes and didn't let her old friends come say goodbye when she was leaving to go to her new house.

Go Ask Alice (Post #2)

Slam Poetry

Topic: Relationship with Parents

Do you THINK before you speak?
The words you say...
Are like deep cuts on my wrists
I look at you with a blank face
Trying to be the person you want me to be
Not wanting to disappoint...
Or cause you any trouble
Even if I have to suffer
Willing to suffer
So you could have the perfect child
But don't you SEE?
The hurt in your own child's eyes
THINK before you speak
One day...
You will have a child
The next day...
You won't

"She writes a farewell letter to her family and feels ashamed for letting them down." (October 19)

Go Ask Alice (Post #1)

This social issue developed in the novel so far is the use of drugs.
Through Alice's eye's we learn how she felt being a part of her family and how she didn't fit in. Not fitting into her family lead her to using drugs and also having to leave her school and move to a new area and start over. The use of drugs after moving to a new home became more. Alice started to use drugs to fall asleep, to do work and also use it just for the sheer pleasure. The drug use became so bad that Alice ran away from home. She started a new life with a friend. They both, got jobs to survive out alone without the support of parents.

A journal entry from Alice's diary

(Oct. 19) She and Chris decide to flee to San Francisco. To make up for having peddled drugs, Alice vows to turn Richie in to the police and stay clean with Chris. They leave in the middle of the night for Salt Lake City en route to San Francisco. Alice fears Richie will find her, as only she could have provided the detailed information to the police. She writes a farewell letter to her family and feels ashamed for letting them down.

4 C's

Connection: The video "Former Child Soldier Ishmael Beah Recounts his Past" is about children who are recruited into war by force. The video is similar to the article, "Teaching Kids to Kill" because the main theme is directed towards the amount of violence children see in social networking. Similarities between the video and article are that Ishmael and children now a days are being taught violence is okay. Ishmael Beah was physically taught how to use a gun but kid's who were not forced into war are learning from video games and television.
Concepts: Key concepts or idea I think are important and worth holding onto are child soldiers are forcefully recruited by adults who should know better. That a child should not have to part take in war.
Changes:  Changes in action and thinking are that Ishmael Beah went to a rehabilitation centre. By being in a rehabilitation centre Ishmael Beah went through physical withdrawal like learning how to sleep again and facing traumas

Je Suis Charlie (War and Conflicts)

http://www.theguardian.com/media/2015/jan/13/charlie-hebdo-cover-magazine-prophet-muhammad

This news article "Charlie Hebdo: First Cover since Terror Attack Depicts prophet Muhammad" is about the attack on a Paris magazine office killing twelve people. This attack was led by two men who follow the ideologies of Isis. The headline of the front cover "Tout est PardonnĂ©" (All is forgiven) was printed to show that this attack should not led to a horrible conflict instead it should open doors to forgiveness.

A text to world connection you can make is the Parliament Hill shooting that occurred in Ottawa. This attack was also carried out but Isis followers. Isis (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) have declared "war" on all countries. To prove that they are being serious on their threat, they have been planning out terror attacks in different countries. Like the Parliament Hill shooting and now the attack on a Paris Magazine office. The ideologies of Isis is to use force and violence to establish an Islamic caliphate.

This connection helps extend my understanding of different ideologies that people have. Humankind repeats the past without knowing that they are. Wars and conflicts are an on going cause. Instead of using violence and force, people should look at the past and realise that force and violence is not the answer to everything. Ideologies have positive and negative effects, society should look at those effects before advocating to violence.
