Go Ask Alice (Post #2)

Slam Poetry

Topic: Relationship with Parents

Do you THINK before you speak?
The words you say...
Are like deep cuts on my wrists
I look at you with a blank face
Trying to be the person you want me to be
Not wanting to disappoint...
Or cause you any trouble
Even if I have to suffer
Willing to suffer
So you could have the perfect child
But don't you SEE?
The hurt in your own child's eyes
THINK before you speak
One day...
You will have a child
The next day...
You won't

"She writes a farewell letter to her family and feels ashamed for letting them down." (October 19)

  1. I loved your poem. I think that a lot of kids can relate to this because there are a lot of kids out in the world that try not to be a disappointment to their parents but sometimes the parents expect to much
